Moving and Packing Essentials List for Home Shifting

Use this list to collect all the general household items you need for the first two days in your new home. If you are moving to another city or state and the migrants are not going to arrive in a week or more, then you should consider packing more than recommended below. Think about everything you use on a daily basis and pack accordingly.

Remember, this is just a guide. Only you know exactly what your family will need while you are settling into your new home.

1. Dish soap

To save space and weight in the box of essentials, pour a little dish soap in a small container or glass jar. You can then pack the rest of the bottle into one of the kitchen boxes that can be unpacked later.

1. Towels

To save space, use detergent and a towel to wrap and pack fragile items before placing them in the base box.

1. Cleaning supplies

Choose a cleaner that will clean most surfaces. If you think you will need to clean your new home before you move on, you may want to pack a separate cleaning box that includes a broom, mop, bucket and other cleaning supplies. Otherwise, pack only one general purpose cleaner.

1. Multifunctional kitchen knife

If you have space, you could also include a cutting board, especially if you think you will be preparing various meals in your new home before unpacking the kitchen.

1. Toaster, coffee maker and other small appliances

You may want to use a separate box to pack all the small appliances you need, including a coffee maker, toaster, and possibly a microwave. Just make sure you have the box clearly marked and mark it so that you can easily find it among all the other boxes.

1. Dishes and utensils

Make sure you pack a cup, plate, knife, fork and spoon for each family member. Mugs are better than glasses, as they can be used for both hot and cold drinks. Thoroughly pull the glasses and plates and utensils to ensure that they reach your new home safely.

1. Pet foods, dishes and supplies

Although you may remember to pack pet foods, you may forget to pack pet dishes, straps, medicines, and other supplies. And if you happen to brush your pet's teeth, don't forget their toothbrushes!

1. Pair of scissors

A good pair of scissors will always come in handy, especially when you're looking for something to break through the packaging tape you used to seal all these well-packaged boxes.

1. Tape

I know. You're tired of movie after all this packaging you do. Regardless, it's a good idea to include a movie roll in the base box. Usually I pack a duct tape - it is strong, durable and will fix almost anything.

1. Emergency medical kit

A small medical or emergency kit is required. Minor cuts and injuries are a possibility when unpacking so you will want to keep a good supply of bandages, gauze and ointments close at hand. You can also check the moving safety tips for more information about your safe stay while driving.

1. Flashlight and / or Candles

It is always a good idea to pack some kind of emergency lighting. A few years ago, we spent a long day moving, arriving at our new home late at night. We quickly discovered that the former residents had removed all the lamps, leaving us - literally - in the dark. We were happy to have some lenses in hand.

1. Shower curtain

This may seem like a silly thing to pack in your box of essentials, but there is nothing more frustrating than wanting to shower after a long day just to discover that you can't remember where you packed it. Shower curtain. This happened to me a few times before I learned to pack it properly. Of course, this only applies if your new home needs a shower curtain...

1. Shampoo, Air Conditioner and Bath Soap

I've included these basics in the family box instead of the personal boxes, just to reduce weight and tension. Again, you can pour small amounts of liquid into plastic bottles to reduce the amount you have to pack. Just remember to mark the bottles.

1. Garbage bags

The garbage bags have all uses other than use for trash. As soon as we moved, it started to rain before we finished, so we were happy to have packed several garbage bags in our basic data box that every person who helped us move had some protection from the wet weather in the form of poncho bag trash.

1. Laundry soap

If I had to leave something out of the list of raw materials, it would be laundry soap. I'll pack it if you have very young children who need a lot of laundry. Otherwise, most clothes can wait until they are packed. Or if you have space in the box of your basics, put some lids full in a baggie or a plastic container instead of including the whole box or jug.

1. Emergency Contact List

An emergency list should be the last item you pack in your essentials box to be the first thing to unpack in your new home. Place it in a prominent position in your new home - in the fridge or on the dashboard or right next to your home phone.
